Maple Valley Varsity Lions Storm Back To Defeat Concord

Maple Valley Varsity Lions trailed by as many as four, but came back to best Concord on Tuesday, 9-6. Concord were the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run. Concord extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles by Metcalf and Fritz. Concord added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Riske doubled to center field, and Concord scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run. Maple Valley Varsity Lions flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring eight runs on four hits to take the lead, 9-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Pierce that drove in two. McDonald earned the win for Maple Valley Varsity Lions. The pitcher allowed four hits and five runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out eight and walking three. Fritz took the loss for Concord. The starting pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs on two hits, striking out four and walking five. Hoefler appeared in relief for Maple Valley Varsity Lions. Leadoff hitter Hoefler led Maple Valley Varsity Lions with two hits in four at bats. McDonald, Hoefler, and Pierce each drove in one run for Maple Valley Varsity Lions. Maple Valley Varsity Lions had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Joseph, Bryson, and Pierce led the team with two free passes each. McDonald, Hoefler, and Pierce each stole multiple bases for Maple Valley Varsity Lions. Maple Valley Varsity Lions ran wild on the base paths, accumulating 12 stolen bases for the game. Maple Valley Varsity Lions turned one double play in the game. Fritz, Riske, Miller, and Metcalf each drove in one run for Concord. Concord turned one double play in the game.
