Varsity Boys defeat Comstock

By Landon Wilkes | Jan 24, 2024 1:20 PM

Ayden Wilkes had 23 points and 5 rebounds. Freshman Teegan McDonald had a season high 19 points and 5 blocks to lead Maple Valley to a 58-55 come from behind win. Maple Valley trailed by 7 points with 4 minutes to go, Wilkes had back to back buckets to cut the lead to 4. After a Comstock basket pushed the lead to 6 Teegan McDonald hit a big 3 point shot to cut the lead in half. Wilkes got a lay in to cut lead to 53-52. McDonald was able to wiggle his way through the defense to give Maple Valley the lead for good and were able to hold on for the win. Teegan is coming back from injury and I thought tonight was the first night where he looked comfortable out on the floor. He let the game come to him and did a really nice job of getting into the lane. We have been focusing on really attacking the rim and getting more paint touches which we did a lot better tonight. We had been relying on the 3 point shot way too much lately. Getting 18 2 points baskets was a great improvement. I thought we had everyone on the team contribute tonight. Everyone stayed engaged and we were able to fight back and get the win tonight. Maple Valley 5-7. Thanks Ryan Nevins Varsity Boys Basketball Coach
